Alex Symons

Alex is Chief Underwriting Officer for the Paratus Group of Companies, responsible for directing the underwriting function across the portfolio, ensuring it remains within risk appetite and meets commercial and regulatory objectives.

Alex has over 18 years’ experience across the (re)insurance industry, spanning captive and commercial management, risk advisory, credit ratings, and underwriting governance. Prior to Paratus, Alex was Insurance Risk Manager for a private office, redesigning global insurance architecture, advising on captive feasibility and domicile strategy, and developing the investment strategy. Before that, Alex spent 15 years with Aon Guernsey, where he was Client Service Director and part of the senior leadership team, with responsibility for a 30+ entity client portfolio, a team of 10+ colleagues, regulatory engagement, business development, contract negotiation, and board governance. He was also a member of Aon’s global energy industry practice group.

Alex is an ACII-qualified Chartered Insurance Practitioner, holds the Certificate in Captive Management from Glasgow Caledonian University, and completed AIRMIC’s Risk Management Fundamentals programme.
